New Business Liason: Melandie Hines

Melandie Y. Hines is a dynamic community activist who currently resides in Westland, Michigan. Melandie Y. Hines is also a Trustee for the Wayne Westland Board of Education and believes that we must educate and prepare all of our students to be knowledgeable, responsible, and contributing members to society. She was a lifetime student in the Wayne Westland Community School District focusing on college prep courses and participated in the Upward Bound program. She graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in 1997.  During this time Melandie become active in the community and pursued her dreams as a Reserve Police Officer for the Inkster Police Department. She then continued her education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Saginaw Valley State University in 2001. Melandie Y. Hines wanted to continue her education and was able to excel in the receipt of her Master’s Degree in Business Management/ Human Resources Management from the University of Phoenix in 2006. Melandie Hines was the wife of the late Inkster Police Officer Shawn Hines (victim of cancer) and she is passionate about being a loving single parent to their son Elijah Hines.  While active in her community, church and with the support of her family Melandie wanted to make a bigger impact on society and pave a positive future for her child and other children in the community.  Being a Representative of the Michigan Association of School Boards and having a close relationship with her Legislators, helped the Wayne Westland Community School District close the funding gap assisting the school district to increase their fund balance from 4% in 2013 to 20% in 2022.

Melandie Y. Hines is dedicated to public service and believes in giving back to the community. She is currently serving her third term as a Precinct Delegate #39 and serves as the Election Chair for the City of Westland. Melandie sits on the Executive Committee for the 12th Congressional District under the honorable Congresswoman Rashida Talib. Melandie currently serves as the President of the Kiwanis Club of Wayne-Westland and the Surrounding Areas. Melandie’s consistent activism and political networking over the past fifteen years has afforded her personal and community growth through grassroots organization, strategic planning, and precinct delegate training. Melandie Hines was recently the Director of Contracting and Grants Management for the Inkster Housing Commission.  Melandie has been appointed for 2 years to serve on the Wayne County Women’s Commission representing the City of Westland. She was a Mentor for the Champions of Wayne program, an active member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, NAACP, Top Ladies of Distinction, owner of the Hines Consulting and Management Services LLC., Praise Dancer for the Praise and Mime Ministry at New Hope Baptist Church in Wayne Michigan.  Melandie is a passionate trailblazer, who is dedicated to the implementation of growth and transparency, and has shown the will power to overcome obstacles in life by being a community role model of change. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela




Wake Up Wayne Photos!

Our Wake up Wayne was a huge success! Thanks to Blair from Michigan Works as our guest speaker. We learned about new programs for kids in High School to learn new trades, earn money, and earn certificates through our local business!
